My New Years always begins with a sense of unlimited possibilities and concrete opportunities to elevate my game. This January I hit the ground running so fast it's already the fourth week of the month before I send you my news! New goals, new projects and new things to share will be found below. But first I want to celebrate once again our biggest highlight of 2011.

For as long as I can remember, we've been waging war on everything from the Koreans and Al Qaeda to Drugs and Litter. I suppose it appeals to our American martial nature to declare "war on ____" -- you fill in the blank. I'm hesitant to call this Food Fight for disclosure of Genetically Modified (GM) ingredients a war, but if that's what it takes to get Americans to reclaim responsibility for what they put in their bodies, I guess I'm willing. I'm all about folks listening and acting on this critical issue. Most countries have GM policies -- at least labeling, and in many cases exclusion of GM-containing products -- and citizens and farmers are taking to the streets to fight this battle in places like Haiti. It may sound dramatic, but honestly, the future -- for ourselves, our children and the planet -- is at stake.

March 11, 2011 -- not a day that means much to us here in the United States, but for friends in Japan, this quiet spring day changed the world. They experienced a human-aggravated natural disaster beyond our imaginings that has put their national and cultural resolve to a test that exceeds anything that has ever happened in the United States.
As the stories unfold, from heartache to new beginnings, from complete loss to finding the simple pleasures again, I have been amazed and inspired.

Happy Spring everyone. We had a cold winter and late rains, and now Nature seems a bit out of control. I can almost see the weeds grow! The fruit trees and pollinators are behind schedule -- it may not be a great year for fruit. All the more reason to take special care in the garden, and cultivate relationships with neighbor gardeners! Seasonal farmers markets are starting to open up all over. I miss my friends -- the farmers -- and look forward to seeing them again.

August has been a whirlwind of activity as the first leg of my Rawsome Creations Fall Tour got underway: Beautiful British Columbia and our road tour up to the Raw on the Rawk Festival (see article later) took us to big cities, bucolic countryside, waterways of the Gulf Islands, raw food cafés along the way, and visits with our More Than a Nut Milk Bag customers. And a warm welcome to all our new newsletter readers we met along the way this month.

As you read this, I am just finishing up the third engagement of the Rawsome Creations Fall Tour here in Bali. As always, my impressions of Bali are so intense, it takes me awhile to process, and so look for my report in next month's news.

I love this time of year. (I say that each and every season, but it's true.) As the weather takes us inward into a sort of annual hibernation, contemplation beckons.
